Are You Really in Love? Quiz Can Help You Find Out

One day you feel like you are in love with your significant other/boyfriend/girlfriend, the next day you have your doubts about the relationship. Sometimes you think of him or her as your one true love, at other times you think maybe the attraction is just physical but nothing more. Sound familiar?

Modern relationships are complicated. With all of the demands on our time, it can be hard to meet someone new. This fact might entice us to want to settle for the wrong person. Or, maybe we are with the right person, but we haven’t really given the relationship the chance it needs to grow and not sure if we should devote our energy to it. How can you know for sure?

You may be in need of some feedback about whether you are really in love. “Are you really in love?” quizzes can help give you some perspective on where things stand. Answer the following five quiz questions and tally up the number of times you answer “yes”:

1. Can you imagine being with him or her forever?

One of the best ways to gauge your true feelings for him or her is to try to imagine spending the rest of your life with them. Of course, being in love does not necessarily equate to spending your whole life with someone. But, the way you feel inside by just imagining the prospect of being with him or her forever is great indicator of your true feelings. Ask yourself: when you imagine an entire life spent together, what do you feel: a sense of warmth and security or a feeling of being trapped?

2. Would you list him or her among your top 5 favorite people?

We all have those people in our lives about whom we occasionally think, “You know, that is one of my favorite people.” This is someone who just gives you a warm feeling whenever they are around. Usually, these are people whom you believe make the world a little bit of a better place just by being part of it. Ask yourself whether the person you care about would make your “top 5″ favorite people list.

3. Do you respect him or her as a person?

Physical attraction is of course a powerful force drawing a couple to each other. After all, sexuality keeps the world turning from a biological perspective. Still, the presence of a strong physical attraction between two people does not necessarily equate with being in love. Another important ingredient of a loving relationship is respect. Ask yourself if, deep in your heart, you really respect him or her as a person. This is an essential component to being in love.

4. Do you feel like you could say anything to him or her?

When something in your daily life happens to you that is slightly embarrassing, painful, funny or unique and you want to share with another person, who is the first person you want tell first? If your lover is very low down on the list of people with whom you would share your intimate thoughts and feelings, you may not be truly in love with him or her.

5. Have you ever considered dating someone else since you’ve been together?

During all of the time you have been with your significant other, have you ever had thoughts about dating another person? (You can exclude the occasional romantic fantasy, because we all have those – and having fantasies about other people does not mean you are not in love with the person you are with). If you have seriously considered leaving your lover for someone else more than once or twice during your relationship, you may not be in love.

Okay, count up your answers. If you answered “yes” to at least 4 of these questions, you are likely very much in love with your significant other. Now it is time to put that extra effort into making your relationship work so that all of your doubts about your real feelings for him or her will fade away.

If you answered “yes” to 3 or fewer of these questions, you should do some soul-searching to decide whether it is worth staying in a relationship with someone with whom you may not be in love.
